Mt. Baker Adventure Session
Our lovely couple Claire and Scott wanted to get some photos together, but wanted to do something that accentuated their love for the outdoors. We decided that going on an adventure session where we would spend some time hiking around outside in the evening to a beautiful scenic point to snap some photos would be the best option.
The weather was looking great to do the adventure session on the weekend because the but they had already planned to head to their cabin just outside of Mt. Baker aka Kulshan.
Instead, Claire suggested that we jump in the car and join them at their cabin in Mt. Baker for the weekend – this was a no-brainer. We threw around some high-fives and said “heck yeah!”, and hit the road headed south, looking forward to hiking around Mt. Baker and taking photos at the incredible Artist Point.
We arrived at their cabin in the early evening, had a fire with a side of laughs and a couple beers.
Waking up early the next day because of the excitement of our hike, we spent the morning foraging for wild golden chanterelles to eat for brunch – this was no ordinary adventure session.
We found several different species of edible mushrooms, kept the chanterelles, left the others and picked a few we hadn’t encountered for later identification.
After our brunch we had another fire and spent the early afternoon playing games and digesting our food.
When the fire begun dying out, we started packing everything we needed for our little hiking and photography session around Mt Baker. Here’s what to bring on adventures like these:
Dog
Boots
Warm clothes that stand out from the background
Snacks & Water
Local Beer (for after)
We helped Claire and Scott pick their outfits for the adventure, finished packing and set off for the drive to Mt Baker.
Mt Baker National Forest is stunning, if you haven’t been we highly suggest paying a visit or even better hiring us to photograph the occasion ;) The abundance of glacier covered peaks, alpine meadows and lakes is incredible. There’s also a ton of hiking and camping that can be done with a little planning ahead.
When we arrived at the top of the road, we played a bit of fetch with Claire & Scott’s dog in the alpine meadow below Table Mountain.
After tiring out their dog a little, we did the short Artist Ridge hike to get some of the wiggles out before shooting and then picked several spots around Artist Point to take photos.
Our favorite was the alpenglow from Mount Shuksan, it is unforgettable.

Claire and Scott’s Mt Baker adventure session ended with some cute running pics in the cold followed by some lovely pizza and beer at Chair 9 Pizza & Bar, a personal favorite.
We want to thank Claire and Scott for hosting us in Mt. Baker for the weekend.
